This October in the Occitan countryside (Southern France), singers and would-be singers from around the world will come together for "Sing the Future," a conference featuring Johannes Greiner and Christiaan Boele.
Greiner, the author and pedagogue who directs the music section of the Goetheanum, will give four lectures which place singing and music in their true, cosmic context, while inspiring us to work together to help them, and us, thrive. Boele, the internationally celebrated Werbeck singing teacher, will lead group exercises, workshops and choir sessions. Alicia Burns, Matthew Thurber and Rachel Stehli will lead hands-on workshops on social, artistic and educational aspects of singing. The program will be completed by concert evenings, working groups and an open stage.
In his meetings with Swedish soprano Valborg Werbeck-Svärdström, Rudolf Steiner frequently emphasized the deep and profound importance of her anthroposophical singing school. Working within this school, singers learn not to "shape" or "form" the voice, but to remove the hindrances, both physical and psycho-spiritual, that prevent this divine entity from manifesting itself. The work is accomplished through a wide variety of sung exercises which touch all aspects of human striving. The exercises have profound effects not only on our singing, but on our health and continued growth as human beings.
Open to all. Places limited. Languages: English and French. To sign up or to learn more, see the web site.
